History: The following is taken from the agriculture census of 1872 for Montrose township: Number of dwellings, 267; number of families, 267; number of white males, 797; white females, 644; black males, 31; black females, 28; number of people voting, 253 number of militia, 185; number of foreigners, not naturalized, 54. 7,787 acres of improved land harvested 1,182 bu. wheat, 5,809 bushels; corn, 93,120 bushels; oats, 28,868 bushels; barley, 16 bushels and Pounds of wool shorn, 2,689.
