      DIED.
THOMPSON.--Friday evening, Sept. 29 1871, of Typhoid Fever, at his residence in Moulton, Iowa, William THOMPSON, aged 58 years, 11 months and 20 days.
It becomes our duty to announce the death of one of Moulton's most intelligent, useful and honored citizens in the person of William THOMPSON.
Deceased was born in Washington county, Penn., Oct. 9th, 1912. He moved to Harrison county, Ohio, when about six years of age, afterwards he moved to the West, and finally settled in Jefferson county, Iowa, in 1846. Three years ago he came to Moulton with his family, and has resided here ever since, until his decease, which took place on Friday evening, the 28th inst.
His demise was sudden, and as unexpected as sudden. The shock to the family, as well as to the community, was alarming, sudden and unexpected. Just a few hours before, he seemed to have his usual vigor of body and mind, and had been conversing with his family and others, relative to future business engagements. Alas, the tide of human events changes.

Polygamy Among the Mormons.
A correspondent of a daily newspaper gives the origion (sic) of polygamy among the Mormons :
It was unknown twenty-five years ago, when Joe SMITH was in command at Nauvoo--or at least was never claimed as a part of the religious system. When the prophet was shot, and the community expelled, they took up their line of march to the west, crossed Iowa, and camped the winter at Council Bluffs. While waiting in the spring for grass to start upon the plains, the Mexican war broke out, and some six hundred of them were induced to join the army, and made that long and almost unexampled march under Col. DONIPHAN, which penetrated far into the enemy's country. Meanwhile the colony moved west under the lead of Brigham YOUNG and a few male follwers, and planted the New Zion at Salt Lake. When the war ceased, probably one-half the Mormon regiment that went to Mexico, had fallen, leaving their families in the midst of the then desert of Utah, a thousand miles from any settlement. The women were, doubtless, three times as numerous as the men, and it was just at this critical time that YOUNG had his "revelation." Polygamy grew in to a system and has since continued.
