Fairfield, Sept 6, 1869.
Editors Ledger:
I noticed an article in your paper of last week, taking exceptions to planting out strawberry vines in the months of August and September; which was long ago recommended to me by strawberry growers, and provea [sic] to me by observation and experience to my own satisfaction, to be a good time for putting them out.
I saw them planted out by the acre in the East, and those put out in Sept. grew as finely, and bore as well, as any I ever saw planted out in the spring.
A part of those Jueunda strawberries left at your office, of which it was stated that, "thirty of them weighed a pound" were gathered from plants put out last October.-- They had the same care as those planted out in the spring, and no more; and I think I lost not over twenty plants out of a thousand put out at that time.

I have rows of plants growing side by side that were put out last year, some of them in the spring and some in the fall; there is now but very little difference to be seen between them, and what can prevent my having a fine crop of berries another season, from those plants put out in the full! [sic]
I believe by planting out at this time of the year, and giving the same care and protection that is given to old plants, one will gain by it; for you will not only get a part of a crop next season, but the plants will make a larger growth, and produce a more abundant crop the year following.
It may be said that I have plants to sell, is why I advocate putting them out at this time of the pear. [sic] This may be true, but my sole object is to give the facts as far as they have been made known to me.
There may be others who have had a different experience.--- let us hear from them.
        I. FELLOWS.
[We are obliged to friend FELLOWS, for the result of his experience in strawberries. Our only object is to get at the truth in the matter, and if wrong in our opinions, are ready and willing to be put right.--Eds. LEDGER.]

Messrs. Editors:
Gentlemen:--- We find a statement in your issue of Aug. 26th, by authority of Mr. I. H. CRUMLEY, that the report that Penn township passed a resolution in primary convention instructing her delegates not to vote for a lawyer for Representative "is not a true one;" and also in your paper of Sept. 2nd appears a similar article over the signature of Mr. I. W. ELLIS. We would state to the public that the resolution Mr. C. refers to was offered by Dr. MALEY and seconded by one or more persons in the house, voted on and passed by a unanimous vote; we think not one voting against. We make this statement, that the public may know that Messrs. CRUMLEY and ELLIS are mistaken, wilfully [sic] or otherwise, as to the proceedings of the convention, and expect them to correct their statements.      Yours &c ,
    W. R. HENDRICKS,
    D. J. VANCE,
     AND OTHERS.
  P. S.--- After our paper had been made up, we received a letter from Mr. F. A. KISSELL, in which he makes statements similar to those made in the above letter --- corroborating the assertions that the "no lawyer" resolution was moved by Dr. MOLEY, seconded by one or two persons, and passed unanimously.
Eds. Ledger.

MARRIAGES.
WHITING--LEGGETT.--Sept. 7th, 1869, at the Leggett House, Fairfield, Iowa, by Rev. C. REED, Mr. Charles H. WHITING, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Miss Frank E. LEGGETT, of Fairfield, Iowa.
So they go. One after another of our young people drop into the sea of matrimony, and to them "single cussedness" is no more known. That the barque in which these have begun their voyage may be favored with only pleasant winds--that peace, plenty, and happiness may be their constant attendants--is the sincere wish of their scores of friends.

BRYSON--BICKFORD.--At the residence of the bride’s father, Wm. BICKFORD, Esq., by Rev. Carson REED, Mr. Wm. S. BRYSON and Miss Nettie M. BICKFORD, all of this city.

HILL--PARAMORE.--On the 1st inst., at the residence of the bride’s father, by Rev. A. AXLINE, Mr. James A. HILL and Miss Clara PARAMORE, all of Jefferson county.
