Editors Ledger :
I desire a small space in the columns of your paper for the purpose of correcting a wrong impression that appears to going the rounds [sic] in regard to the action of the Republicans of Penn township at their primary meeting. I understand they are charged with passing resolutions instructing their delegates to vote for no lawyer for office. I wish to say to the Republicans of Jefferson county that such is not the case, as far as I am capable of judging of the sentiment of our township. They have no quarrel to pick with their lawyer friends of Fairfield; on the other hand, they speak in the highest terms of our friends STUBBS, SLAGLE, ACHESON, McCOID, and others, as men who are an honor their profession [sic]; but, at the same time, the feeling appears to be nearly or quite universal to have their candidates for Representatives selected from the laboring class of community. Such was the general expression of our meeting as far as I was able to judge by hearing the sentiment in a private way. As to the resolution referred to, there was none casting any reflections on any lawyer or any one else, except one instructing our delegates not to vote for HAYDEN, in consequence of his voting for the new State House appropriation at our last General Assembly. The resolution published in yesterday’s paper was also passed unanimously, not with any intention of influencing the County Convention, but only to let people, and especially our representatives, know our views in reference to the questions of subject matter that they embrace. They were not handed in for publication, (as our friend JUNKIN well knows) until after the Convention adjourned. Hoping by this statement of facts that our friends throughout the county may understand our position, I remain yours respectfully,
            I. W. ELLIS.
