  An Old Editor Gone.--With pain we record the death of Richard HATTON, Esq., one of the editors of the Mt. Pleasant Journal. Mr. HATTON, in connection with his son Frank, has been connected with the Journal for several years, and they have made it one of the best papers in the State. His experiences as an editor dates back about 30 years, beginning at Cadiz, Ohio. He had been on a visit to friends, and on arrival at the Mt. Pleasant depot, November 5th stricken with apoplexy, from which he never recovered. Mr. HATTON was aged 60 years. His remains were taken to Ohio for interment. He was a christain [sic] gentleman, and gained the respect and esteem of all with whom he became acquainted.

          A CARD.
Messrs. JUNKIN & ROBINSON :
      In justice to Mr. C. S. McCLAIN, Secretary of the Jefferson County Teachers’ Institute, as the proceedings published in last week spoke commendatory of a paper read by him, I would say that the minutes were revised by a separate committee appointed by the President, and this, together, with some other substitutions, was made by this committee.    M. Editors Ledger :
      At a meeting held at Loomis, school house, 6 miles south of Fairfield, on the evening of the 2d inst., for the purpose of organizing a literary society the following officers were elected:
  President--- H. R. SKINNER.
  Vice President--- Nelson LOOMIS.
  Secretary--- Mal. HOLLISTER.
  Assistant Secretary--- Chas. GIFT.
  Treasurer--- John H. McCOY.   A committee to prepare a Constitution and By-Laws was also appointed and other business transacted.
  The purpose of the organization is to secure a course of lectures at this place during the coming winter.
  The first lecture of the season will be delivered on Tuesday evening, November 16th. The public are respectfully invited.         CEDAR.

        Proof of Will.
STATE OF IOWA. }
 Jefferson County,  } ss:
To all whom it may Concern :
      Know ye: That on the 9th day of August 1869, it being the first day of the August term of the Circuit Court in and for said County, a paper purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Benjamin MILLER, deceased, late of said County, was produced in open Court and publicly read, and the 1st day of the next term of said Court set for the proof and final hearing of the same. Notice is therefore hereby given to all concerned that the proof of said Will will be heard on the 1st day of the next term of the Circuit Court for said County to be held in the Court-House in Fairfield on the 3d Monday of November 1869.

  You are hereby notified that there is now on file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Jefferson County, Iowa, a petition of Sarah J. HAMPSON, claiming against you a divorce from the bonds of matrimony, and other relief. And that unless you appear thereto and defend before noon of the second day of the next term of said District Court, to be begun on the 1st Monday of January, 1870, default will be entered against you and judgment rendered thereon.

To AUSTIN HUTCHINSON,
      You are hereby notified that there is a sworn petition now on file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Jefferson County, Iowa, of A. B. WATERMAN, as Administrator of the estate of Alonzo B. HUTCHINSON, deceased, claiming of you the sum of $598.50 as money due from you to him as Administrator of said estate, for horses, cows, hogs, corn, wheat and other articles of property. And that unless you appear and defend thoreto [sic] on or before noon of the second day of the next term of said District Court to be begun and held on the first Monday of January, 1870, at the Court House in said County, default will be entered against you and judgment rendered against you for said sum with interest and costs.

To the Citizens of Fairfield Township.
      You are hereby notified that there is now on file in the Circuit Court of said County, a petition of L. HURST, of Fairfield, asking license and authority to sell intoxicating liquors as provided by law and that said petition has been set for final hearing on the 3d Monday of November, 1869, at which time and place you can appear and show cause, if any you have, why said permit should not be issued.

  You are hereby notified that on or before the 15th day of December 1869, there will be on file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Jefferson County, Iowa, a petition of Ben F. CRAIL, claiming of you the correction of a MISTAKE in a deed executed by James W. SHANNON and Marietta SHANNON, his wife, conveying the Southeast quarter of Section No. twenty-four [24], in Township No. seventy-three [73] North, of Range eleven [11] West, and asking said Court to confirm the title to a portion of said real estate in petitioner. And unless you appear thereto and defend before noon of the second day of the next term of said District Court to be begun on the first Monday of January 1870, default will be entered against you and judgment rendered thereon.

Dissolution Notice.
THE co-partnership heretofore existing between John H. YOUNG and Benjamin GOODRICH, under the name and style of YOUNG & GOODRICH, was dissolved by mutual consent on the 28th day of October 1869.
  The business of the firm will be settled by either member. The books may be found with YOUNG & CRAWFORD, who will continue the stove and tin business. An immediate settlement is demanded.

  You are hereby notified that on or before the first day of December 1869, there will be on file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Jefferson County, Iowa, a petition of Fanny STUCK, claiming of you a decree of divorce, and other equitable relief, and that unless you appear thereto and defend before noon of the second day of the next term of said District Court, to be begun on the first Monday of January 1870, default will be entered against you and judgment rendered thereon.

Co-Partnership Dissolution.
  Notice is hereby given that the co partnership between J. S. BROWN and Samuel REED is this day dissolved by mutual consent. The books and accounts of the firm will be left with REED & Bro., North side of the Park, who will collect all accounts due the firm and assume the payment of all accounts against the firm.

    All indebted to the firm are urgently requested to call and settle without delay. The books must be squared, and delays are dangerous if costs will be avoided.
