A Small "Shoot."--The junior and Mr. Geo. PHELPS, on last Monday, between 10 A.M. and 4 P.M., killed 158 pigeons and 1 fox squirrel on the farm of ex-Sheriff G. A. GALLIHER, in Cedar township; "and it wasn’t a very good day for pigeons, either," but the kindness and hospitality received at the hands of Mr. GALLIHER, fully made up any deficiency which was lacking for a most pleasant day’s shooting.

MARRIAGES.
  --April 25, 1869, at the residence of the bride’s parents, by Rev. E. L. PRATHER, Mr. George ISEMINGER and Miss Elizabeth E. ALBAUGH.

Estray notice.--Taken up by Charles LINSTROM, of Buchanan t’p., Jeff. C., Iowa, April 25, 1869, a dark brown horse mule, with saddle and harness marks on the back and hind parts; 12½ hands high, and about 17 years old.

Railroad Meetings..--In order to secure the location of the Chicago & Southwestern Railroad through Jefferson County, there must be raised by the first day of June proximo, $100,000 in subscriptions to the capital stock of said company. This must be done. Jefferson County must have this road. And in order to secure efficient action in this respect, meetings will be held at the following times and places :
  At Des Moines Brick school house, on Thursday, May 27th, at 2 o’clock P.M.
  At Libertyville, on Saturday afternoon, May 22d.
  At Miller’s school house, on Monday night, May 24th, half past seven.
  At Wheeler’s school house, on Tuesday night, May 24th, half past seven.
  At Hight’s school house, on Friday night, May 21st, half past seven.
  At Doty’s No. 9, Thursday night, May 20, half past seven.
  At Elm Grove school house Friday night, May 21, half past seven.
  At Parson’s school house, Tuesday night, May 25th, half past seven.
  At Chandler’s school house, Thursday night, May 20th half past seven.
  At Salina, Saturday afternoon, May 22d, 2 o’clock.
  At John Linn’s school house, on Monday night, May 24th, half past seven.
  At Bradshaw’s school house, on Friday night, May 21st, half past seven.
  At Fidler’s school house, on Monday night, May 24th, half past seven.
  At Pleasant Plain, Saturday afternoon, May 22d.
  At Cross Lane school house, Tuesday evening, May 25th, half past seven.
  And a grand mass meeting will be held at Fairfield, at one o’clock P.M. on Saturday the 29th of May. Speakers will be present to address the meetings. Other meetings will be called at such points as may be suggested to the committee.

  Fairfield, Iowa, May 18th, 1869.

  Runaway.--Mr. Thomas EBERT’s team of bay horses had a run yesterday morning. Mr. EBERT and son were thrown from the wagon, but not injured. The wagon was upset, coupling pole broken, &c. Horses stopped by running the wagon into a reaping machine.

  Fairfield Improvements.--We now give the size of the new house to be built by William ALSTON. It will be a 2 story frame ; main building 19x38; wing 15x30, with 8 foot portico.
  Joel CAMPBELL has put a 16x24 addition to his house --- bed-room, kitchen and pantry.
  Melchi SCOTT has repaired and fitted up a 2 story house about 20x34.
