The pleasures of "single blesedness" [sic] do not seem to be so abundant after all, when we take into consideration the fact that so many of our friends are trying to escape them. We trust that they will always find something better.
--On the 30th inst., by Rev. A. AXLINE, at the residence of the pastor, Mr. David F. SNOOK and Miss Margaret Ann GREENLAND, all of Jefferson county.
We trust that the brightest day-dreams of our young friends may be fully realized. *

A Conundrum.--What are the attractions at J. DAHLMAN’s boot and shoe store? The fine stock of goods that the people want. Ga [sic] and see if he hasn’t got a pair for you.

Look ‘Here.--All persons indebted to the late firm of S. RICH & Co., for clothing, &c., are requested to immediately call on J. S. BECK or Em. SICKLE, and pay up. It is necessary to have the accounts paid up promptly, and it is hoped that there be no unnecessary delay.

Terrible Accident.--James F. LOCKE, aged about 13 years, son of Gilbert LOCKE, met with a terrible accident on Tuesday last. At the plow shop his uncle has a horse power in operation. The boys had been frequently forbidden to ride on it; but they had been in the habit of doing so. The platform had been taken from the master wheel that morning. The boy got on, and his legs slipped between the arms of the wheel, between which and the frame under it there is a space of about six inches only. He was carried round several times before the horses were stopped. On examination it was found that his right leg was broken in two places, and his left leg in one place. Drs. WOODS & MYERS dressed the wounds and set the broken limbs. The child may recover, but it is considered doubtful. [Ed. note: A related article appears in the "Ledger" on April 8, 1869.]

DIED,--At Batavia, on the 19th ult., of lung fever, Samuel Hardin, only son of Dr. L. HURST and Maggie HURST, aged 1 year, 7 months, and 7 days.
"Sammy" was an exceedingly bright and interesting little boy, and although so young in years, he had won more friends than many who have reached their three score years and ten. He was always so cheerful and so happy that none could know him but to love him. Even in his last sickness which continued more than four weeks, he was always patient and uncomplaining. More than a year ago his fond parents consecrated him to God in the ordiance [sic] of baptism and hoped that he would become a good and useful man. But God willed it otherwise. He has taken little "Sammy" to himself. What is our present loss in his eternal gain. [sic] "Of such is the kingdom of heaven." With him the great battle of life has soon ended, but the victory through the merits of a crucified Savior, is none the less certain or complete. Hence his loving parents need not weep as those who have no hope. Although God’s providences are often very dark and mysterious, still he doeth all things well. Little "Sammy" is not dead, but sleepeth.       A.A.

Game--James GOVER killed a large white crane on Friday last, that measured 6 feet 10 inches from tip to tip of wings. and 5 feet 10 inches from bill to toe. Dr. SHAFFER has the skin stuffed.
The same young man killed a large swan a few days after, and Dr. SHAFFER is engaged in taxidermizing his lordship’s hide.
