World War I Veterans
And Red Cross Volunteers Pictures
|
|
In 1920 plans were made in Jefferson
County to publish the picture of every World War One serviceman in Jefferson
County. It was planned to publish pictures of those who had also
volunteered for service in the Red Cross
during that conflict. Those plans were never carried through.
Most of the pictures were reclaimed but many still remained unclaimed.
There are almost 170 in a collection in the Fairfield Public Library.
If one of these is a member of your family you may claim the original for
the cost of handling. They will be sent on a first-come first-served
basis. If your family picture has been reclaimed we still have digital
copies of these pictures on file. These photographs vary in quality.
Some are from large original professional photographs and are quite clear
and some are from small snapshots that are somewhat fuzzy. We have
attempted to enhance the digital copies to some degree.
To request the original, please post a Query on our Query Board.
You may save a digital copy of the picture by placing your cursor on the picture and RIGHT-clicking your mouse.
