This page contains a listing of Jefferson County's Government Pensioners in 1883. Here you may find veterans of the War of 1812 and the Civil War, or their surviving spouses or family members. This listing is extracted from an 1883 Government Printing Office publication, "Pensioners on the Rolls, January 1, 1883; giving The Name of Each Pensioner, The Cause for Which Pensioned, The Post-Office Address, The Rate of Pension Per Month, and the Date of Orginal Allowance, as called for by Senate Resolution of December 8, 1882." This publication contains several volumes covering the existing states of the time, and Jefferson County information was found in Volume III, Pages 725-727.
Information appeared in the source publication in the order of the Pensioner's residence; in presenting the list here I have taken the small liberty of sorting Pensioners by surname to make locating a particular person easier. Some of the pages did not include the Certificate Numbers as the scanner of the original material neglected to include the column; date columns were all present but a date was not always noted there.
