Tax List Published

This year for the first time a delinquent tax list is being published for personal taxes and mobile homes. In years past they have all been published in one list.

The delinquent tax list for personal property and mobile homes appears in today's issue of the Ledger, May 27, and will appear again one week later, June 3.

The delinquent tax list of real estate will appear Friday, June 4 and Friday, June 11.

Paul White, county treasurer, said publication of delinquent tax lists are required by law during specific periods. For instance, the code provides that the treasurer shall after April 1 and before June 30 cause to be compiled a list of all delinquent personal property for the current assessment year and it shall be published in a newspaper in the county once each week for two consecutive weeks.

Any mobile home tax or other personal property tax unpaid 10 days after final publication should be collected by the county sheriff by serving a distress warrant issued by the county treasurer.

White said all persons with delinquent personal taxes were notified prior to May 1.

At the time notices were mailed there were delinquent taxes shown against 40 mobile homes in the county. This number had dwindled to 15 by the time the delinquent tax list was prepared for publication.

On Delinquent Personal Taxes

Fairfield, Iowa, May 27, 1976


  In compliance with Section 445.8 of the Code of Iowa, notice is hereby given to the owners of personal property on which taxes are unpaid and delinquent.
  Publication of delinquent personal property taxes has been ordered in a newspaper of general circulation for May 27th and June 3rd as provided by statute.
 Within 10 days following final publication, as provided by law, the County Treasurer will issue Distress Warrants for collection of such delinquent taxes. Such warrants shall be served by the Sheriff of Jefferson County, as prescribed by law.
  Any taxpayer affected may at any time pay to the Treasurer the amount of delinquent taxes and penalty, plus the costs of publication, prior to the issuance of the Distress Warrant.

  In compliance with section No. 446.2 of the Code of Iowa, notice is hereby given that on Monday, 10:00 a.m. sharp, June 21, 1976 at the treasurer's office in the Jefferson County Court house there will be offered for sale all lands and town lots on which the taxes have been levied for the year 1974 and prior years and which at the time of sale remain unpaid. The sale to be adjourned from time to time as necessary, not to exceed sixty days at any adjournment, until all lands and town lots are sold, of which the list below is a correct listing to the best of my knowledge and belief.
