ARCHER, GRAHAM, HALE, HINTON, LUCAS, MILBURN, SHORT posted by Marcellene GRAHAM DAVIS on Saturday, June 13, 1998
GRAHAM; Jasper County, Iowa; 1829-1900's. I'd like to share research with others interested in the family of George GRAHAM, Sr. and his wife, Barbara MILBURN. George and Barbara were born in England, came to Centre County, Pennsylvania, by 1832, and on to Jasper County, Iowa, before 1850. There were possibly 11 children from this marriage:Thomas b. 1826; Mary J. b. 1827; George (Jr.) b. 1829; Jane b. 1830; John b. 1833; Christian R. b. 1835; Hamilton b. 1837; Arthur b. 1839; Barbara Ann b. 1842; Caroline b. 1845 and Edmund b. 1848. George Jr. married at least 3 times - Mary Jane ? in Pennsylvania; Martha J. HALE, in Missouri; and Rosanna SHORT, in Missouri. John married Matilda Ann LUCAS, remaining in the Prairie City area. They had four sons. Jane married Lorenzo Dowe ARCHER. Barbara Ann married Constant HINTON - their daughter, Clara Gertrude HINTON b. 1871, at Colfax, Jasper, Iowa. Arthur, George Jr. and John apparently farmed in the Prairie City area. There are several of us descended from these children, having just found each other, that would like to connect with more descendants and share any information. George GRAHAM, Jr. was my grandfather.
KANE, PARKER posted by Ginger Rhodes on Tuesday, June 16, 1998
I am searching for any information on my paternal grandfather, or any of his family. His name was Herbert James KANE. My father, Herbert Russell Kane, was born in Carroll, Iowa on 12/24/20 to Herbert James KANE and Cora (Farmer) KANE. My father's birth certificate lists his father's age as 36, born in Michigan, and occupation salesman. His mother was age 41, born in Iowa. His mother's mother's name was Mary (Menesee) Farmer. My father was told that when he was 3 his father "disappeared". We have later learned that they were actually divorced. The family lived in Newton, Iowa, Ames, Iowa, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Richland, Iowa and Carroll, Iowa that we know of. His mother and father met in Richland, Iowa, so possibly they were married there. Someone on my father's side invented either a washing machine or something to do with a washing machine. That person was living in Newton, Jasper County, Iowa at that time. There was a huge estate on his death and we understand the will was contested. All we know about my grandfather is that he was an orphan, raised by an aunt in Iowa, birth mother's name was supposedly PARKER, and that he had a relative who invented something to do with a washing machine in Newton, Iowa. If anyone has any information on any of the names mentioned, or about the washing machine invention, I would appreciate hearing from you. We have run into a dead-end. Thank you in advance for your help.

I am looking for information on Phoebe Ann (WILCOX) NORTHRUP, wife of Mahlon H. NORTHRUP, who died between 2 Apr 1856 at or soon after the birth of her son, Edward W. NORTHRUP. When the Iowa 1856 Special Census was enumerated in July 1856 her husband is shown as a widower, and Edward was 0 years old. Was a mortality schedule taken for the period of 1 year before the census was taken? I do not know when she was born, only that she was born in Pennsylvania.
