Earl Daft ROSE lived in Colfax from 19010 to 1940. He and his wife operated cafe on Front street across from the old hotel for a couple of years 1939-1941. He lived on Front street with his aunts in the home his grandfather William DAFT built. I would like any information on him, his father who was nightwatchman for many years in Colfax. His name was Alex ROSE. His father George also lived in Colfax and his father Alexander lived north of town arriving in 1879 fron MI. I would like any information on any of my family in Jasper county.

BEALS, BACON, CARY (or CAREY), DAY. Searching for any information on Isaac Bacon BEALS who married Hannah DAY BEALS in Jasper County in 1874. She was the daughter of Richard and Rachel CARY (Or CAREY) DAY. Isaac and Hannah migrated to Louisiana in either 1886 or 1888 with a group of Iowan Quakers.

MASON, John E. 1818-1891 MA>MI>IA John E. MASON, b. 9 Mar 1818 in Massachusetts, d. 17 Jul 1891 in Iowa and was buried at Mitchellville, Iowa. He married Almira Ione SHUMWAY (1848) probably in Lenawee County Michigan. Almira was b. 4 Jan 1824 in Wayne County, New York and d. 19 Jun 1915 in Iowa. Almira was also buried in Mitchellville. John, Almira, and family moved to the Mitchellville area between 1860 - 1865. I beleive it was in 1865, but I have conflicting reports. They had the following children I am aware of: 1. Nathan Almon MASON (I am descended from Nathan), b. Mar 1849 in Fairfield Twp, Lenawee County, Michigan. Nathan married (Mariah) TOTTEN 4 Feb 1876 in Jasper County, Iowa. Notes say Nathan lived most of his life in Van Meter, Dallas County, Iowa. 2. Sarah MASON, b. Abt. 1852 in Michigan 3. Adah Ione MASON, b. Abt. 1854 in Michigan 4. Eugene Barnard MASON, b. May 1856 in Michigan and d. 1923 in Iowa. He was married to Charlotte. Eugene, Charlotte, his mother Almira, and family were living in Washington Twp, Jasper County, Iowa in 1900. The following children were listed in the Federal Census of 1900. Geneva MASON, b. Dec 1886 in Iowa and John MASON, b. Oct 1891 in Iowa. That is the sum of what I know. Thank you again for your help. Looking for info Elmer William RIDOUT (father) and Hattie Rosetta RIDOUT. We have no info on parents just father's name. Hattie was born 2 Mar 1865 Baxter.Iowa. Married Samuel SHINKLE 18 Jan 1885 in Collins, Iowa. They had seven children:John Lester,Minnie Mae,Perie Ethel,Albert Frank,Benjamin Floyd,Lela Rosetta,and Velma Isabel.Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Jesse EVANS, my Great Great Grandfather must have stepped off a space ship and married Lucinda DINGLER in Jasper County on April 16, 1826. They had 7 children. Their name are as following: William, b. abt. 1827 - Elijah, b. abt 1829 - France, b. abt. 1833 - Dennis R., b. abt. 1836 - James J., b. abt. 1840 and George, b. about 1842. Most of the children were born in Jasper County, GA. Jesse EVANS died in Randolph County, AL. July 1869. Any information would be appreciated.

I am looking for any information or researchers of this HAMMOND family: Samuel HAMMOND and wife Nancy WATSON had son James Quinn HAMMOND b. 1838 in Seneca Co OH. The family may have been in Jasper County by 1850. James Q. enlisted in Co. I, 10th Iowa Infantry as a musician. After the war , we next find him in Marshall Co IA where he m. Emma M. RONEY. He died in 1914 in NE. Will be happy to share what I have. Thank you!

HOSLEY, Jeannie or Jane Ann (MATTESON) married to Andrew Jackson Hosley in Vermont 1865. In Iowa as early as April 1876; last child of 5 born here. Family info has it that she died 2 Feb 1877 in Colfax, Iowa. Can you help me prove her death or steer me to any funeral homes in the area I might research? Would like to have this information so I can join the DAR.

I am looking for any information on James Quinn HAMMOND and his parents Samuel HAMMOND and Nancy WATSON. James Q. was b. 1838 in Seneca Co OH and I think that he may have had a brother J. W. and a sister Nancy, and poss. other sibs. I think they came to Jasper Co ca 1850s. His mother is shown with him in the 1860 census in Monroe, Fairview Twp. I would like to learn if his parents died and are bur. in Jasper Co, and hopefully find a researcher of this family. James Q.HAMMOND d. 1914 in Gering, Scottsbluff Co NE. ROSE, SUTCLIFFE,COLEMAN, Ruth (Coleman)ROSE, died June 23, 1893 in Vandalia. Her husband, Gardner ROSE died June 24, 1827. Both are reported to have been buried in Vandalia. Would like a copy of the obituary and cemetery buried in. They had three children out of 7 that died in Jasper Co. Lucinda ROSE, d. Feb 2, 1916; Margaret (ROSE) either McHONE or CONNETT, d. Apr 7, 1901 and Ruth ROSE (or SUTCLIFFE) her first husband reported died in a river frount brawl in 1876 in IL. Not confirmed.
