Organization
The Jasper County Genealogical Society (JCGS) was organized October 26, 1977 and is a Chapter of the Iowa Genealogical Society.
The objectives of the society are to:
- Create and foster an interest in genealogy.
- Preserve genealogical and historical data, particularly of our ancestors and the early settlers of Jasper County.
- Aid individuals in compiling family genealogies.
- Establish and maintain, through contributions of members, interested individuals, and the Society, a genealogical reference section, consisting of county histories, periodicals, surname file and family genealogies.
The society currently reaches the goals in these ways:
- transcribing genealogical data and making available to the public
- providing research assistance
- a library with an extensive collection of Jasper County, Iowa counties and other states genalogical material
- quarterly newsletter sent to members
- transcription and sales of cemetery and marriage records; plus free acess local access to these items plus other important genealogical records
