This is the name of the station on the Newton & Monroe Railroad. It is in the northeastern part of Elk Creek Township, and is about twelve miles due south of Newton, and seven miles northeast of Monroe. The town derives its name from several land-owners, reputable citizens in the vicinity, and is the youngest town in the county; the plat not having been surveyed till the Summer of 1877. James Allen had a house on the site before the stakes were struck, but he soon had neighbors, for there are now ten or twelve dwellings comprising the town. Two grain elevators have been built, one owned by Arnold & Johnson, and the other by Mr. Adamson. Two stores are open for business - one managed by Mr. Bates, the other by R.W. Davis. James Allen is Postmaster and Station Agent. The town is in the midst of a well-settled and fertile region, and is destined to be a point of some importance. In time, no doubt, sidings will be run from this station to carry away the coal underlying the hills near by. A school district is in process of formation at Reasoner, and a bridge is to be constructed across South Skunk, which runs less than a mile west of the town. |
