The Episcopal Church was a major presence in small town Iowa before and for some years after the turn of the century. While many churches were well established, others were only missions, served by priests who traveled between several parishes. Over time, demographic changes in Iowa brought the closure of a number of the smaller congregations. The records from these closed churches are stored at the offices of the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa in Des Moines. In 1997, the Rt. Rev. C Christopher Epting, Bishop of Iowa, gave permission for these records to be photocopied for use by the Iowa Genealogical Society. The following transcription was drawn from records of St. Clement's Episcopal Mission at Colfax, Iowa. St. Clement's Mission was short lived, and only a few records are known to exist.
