John Willemsen, 69, of 2901 1st AVe. E., formerly of rural Reasnor, died of cancer Sunday, May 4, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Reese Chapel in Newton with Merle Smith, Skiff Medical Center chaplain, and Pastor Syd McCrorey, associate pastor of the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton, officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
Friends may call Tuesday after 1 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County.
The son of Jan "Tony" and Christina (Vande Voort) Willemsen, he was born June 24, 1933, in Newton. He was a 1951 graduate of Newton Senior High School. On Dec. 29, 1962, he married Marilyn Dammeier. He farmed all of his life in the Reasnor area. Mr. Willemsen moved to Newton in February 2002.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bruce Dunlap of Iowa City and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters in infancy. ~ The Newton Daily News, May 5, 2003.
