Born: January 8, 1911 in Dawson, Dallas Co., Iowa Ted C. Orman; former Newton resident, diesNewton -- Thaddeus "Ted" C. Orman, 72, of 2818 E. Walnut, Des Moines, a resident of Newton from 1942 through 1952, died Tuesday evening at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Kirkpatrick, pastor of the Immanuel Baptist Church in ?, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. today. Survivors are his wife, Lola; four daughters, Norma May Maples, Sandra Briggs and Patricia Slaybaugh, all of Des Moines, and JoAnn McFadden of Ashdown, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Cecil, "Bill" Orman of Decatur, Ill.; and two sisters, Margaret "Muggs" Snyder of Decatur, Ill., and Marie Hect of Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Mr. Orman had been an employee of the Firestone Co. The son of William and Nellie Wilcox Orman, he was born Jan. 8, 1911 in Dawson. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept 17, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following at Sugar Grove Cemetery. Memorials in Lola's name may be left at the funeral home. Lola, the daughter of Orie and Hazel (Henney) Gibson, was born on Sept. 17, 1922, in Jasper County. She graduated from Newton High School in 1941. Lola was united in marriage with Thaddeus "Ted" Orman Dec. 10, 1942. Lola is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (Wayne) Withem of Ashdown, Ark.; nine grandsons, Kevin, Willis, Jimmie, Billy, Josh, Ricky, Timmy, Terry and Cliff; 14 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Bonnie Michael of Des Moines and Ruby Jacobs of Newton; and a brother, Kenneth (Bev) Gibson of Franklin, Tenn. Born: April 26, 1947 in Newton, Jasper Co., Iowa ObituaryPatricia Kay Slaybaugh, 65, passed away at Taylor House Hospice on Wednesday, May 2, 2012. Patricia was born April 26, 1947 in Newton, Iowa to Lola and Thaddeus Orman. She worked as a dietary aide at Lutheran Hospital where she met the love of her life, Terry Slaybaugh. She enjoyed animals, playing BINGO, her doll collection and her two dogs. Patricia is survived by her mother, Lola Orman; her sisters, Sandra Briggs and JoAnn Withem; six nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by Terry, her husband of 30 years. Also predeceased by her father, Ted Orman; sister, Norma Maples; and two nephews. A memorial visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Terry was born October 30, 1950 in Redfield, Iowa to Unece (Larsen) and Loren Dean Slaybaugh. He grew up in Des Moines and married Patricia Kay Orman on June 5, 1982. Terry enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working on bikes. Terry is survived by his wife, Pat; siblings, Kathy, Steve, Michael, and Tom Slaybaugh; mother in law, Lola Orman; sisters in law, Sandy Briggs and Joann; and his pet dogs, Peanut and Rufus.
