Relatives here have received word of the death of Mrs. Charles Jones, 70 years old at Stratton, Nebr. The cause of her death was apoplexy. She lived here several years ago when she was Mary Westbrook. She was a sister of Lee Westbrook of this city.
The body will be brought to Newton tomorrow or Monday and funeral services will be held here followed by interment in the Metz cemetery. ~ Newton Daily News, March 1, 1919

Body of C. B. Jones Brought For Burial
The body of Charles B. Jones, an old resident of Jasper county in the neighborhood of Metz, was brought here for burial Wednesday night. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon at Metz and burial will be made in the Metz cemetery.
Mr. Jones died June 27, at his home in Stratton, Nebraska; at the age of eighty years, his death being due to advancing old age.
Mr. Jones was a brother-in-law to Lee Westbrook and has other relatives in and near Newton. He was an old soldier and lived on a farm near Metz until thirty-five years ago when he moved to Nebraska, where he was very successful in business. His wife died a year ago in February and is buried in the Metz cemetery.
Many Newton people were well acquainted with Mr. Jones and will be grieved to learn of his death. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, July 1, 1920

Funeral For Charles B. Jones is Held
At Metz Cemetery
Funeral services were held for Charles B. Jones at the cemetery at Metz Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. It was only a short service at the grave and Dr. G. C. Williams, pastor of the Congregational church at Newton, made a few appropriate remarks.
Pallbearers were Henry, Fred and Louie Aillaud, Will Ramsey, Ed Morrissey, and Fred Tiedje.
Two sons of Mr. Jones, Harry L and Bruff C., both of Stratton, Nebraska, and a daughter, Mrs. Harry McDonnell, of Murdock, Nebraska, accompanied the body of their father.
Charles B. Jones was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, June 15, 1840, and quietly passed from this life June 27, 1920, at his home in Stratton, Nebraska, at the age of eighty years and twelve days.
At the age of twenty-two years he enlisted for the war of the rebellion in the Third Ohio and served three months, receiving his honorable discharge. He then re-enlisted in the Ninety-sixth Ohio for three years, but after serving ten months he was taken sick with typhoid fever. At the end of the war he was honorably discharged at Keokuk, Iowa.
On March 9, 1864, he was married to Mary E Westbrook and the same year come to Jasper county to make their home. For many years they made their home on a farm near Metz, moving thirty-five years ago to Nebraska.
To them were born eight children, Ola P., of Fairbury, Nebraska, Mrs. C. A. Besack, of Springfield, Nebraska, Mrs. H. V. McDonnell and Harry L., Bruff and Mrs. G. W. Maguire of Stratton, Nebraska, and Hattie C. who died in childhood.
Mrs. Jones preceded her husband in death and was brought back to Metz cemetery for burial.
When the Jones family moved from Jasper county to Nebraska they first settled on a farm in Thayer county, moving from her to a farm, moving from there to a farm south of Stratton, and in 1915 they moved into the town of Stratton and it was there that Mr. Jones died. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, July 2, 1920.

The funeral service for Harry L. Jones was held Friday, March 14, at 2:30 o'clock in the Methodist church at Stratton, Neb. A male quartet composed of Masons, sang three selections. The members of the quartet were H. H. Ziemer, Wade R. Martin, George S. Morrell and Walter L. Best of Nebraska. Rev. George S. Morrell of Stratton, preached the sermon after which the Masons conducted their impressive funeral service. The obituary roll of the Masons revealed the fact that the deceased was the oldest mason in respect to membership. The pall bearers were E. C. Ratcliff, L. Rooks, J. Masters, U. S. Burk, F. L. Siegle and N. E. Diehl, all of Stratton, Nebraska.
The remains were brought to Newton, and interred in the Metz cemetery beside his parents who preceded him in death. Rev. Paul Ellsworth Becker, pastor of the Christian church had charge of the services.
Harry L. Jones was born in Jasper county, Iowa, March 4, 1865. He died at Stratton, Nebraska, March 11, 1924 at the age of 59 years and seven days.
He resided with his parents in Jasper county until 1883 when they moved to Thayer county, Nebraska, residing there three years. In 1886 he and his father, C. B. Jones, came west to Hitchcock county, Nebraska. Here they took up a homestead where he resided until 1915 when he and his parents moved to his present home in Stratton, Nebraska, where he lived until his death.
Harry L. Jones was of a quiet and unassuming nature. In the home in which he died he had cared faithfully for his parents in the declining years of their lives. He himself was content to live out his own life. He hoped that he would never become a care for others. An in this his wish was realized. He had been in his customary place, attending to the duties which he had in the lodge about which his outside activities centered-the Masonic lodge, the evening before he died. He bade his brother Masons good night, went home to sleep and awoke in that "undiscovered country from whose bourne no traveler returns."
He leaves to mourn his death, four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. H. V. McDonnell and Mrs. Henry A. Tool of Murdock, Nebraska; Mrs. C. A. Besack of Omaha, Nebraska; O. P. JONES FAMILY*
Bruff C. Jones was born in Newton, IA, 8 Oct. 1875. He was the fifth of eight children born to Charles B. and Mary E. (Westbrook) Jones. CB and Mary were both natives of Ohio. In 1883 or 1884, the family moved to Thayer County, NE, then on to Hitchcock County in 1887. Bruff grew to manhood in Hitchcock County, and on 17 Feb 1898, he married Frances A. Welch.
Frances, daughter of Steven E. and Anna M. Welch, was born at Prairie City, Jasper County, IA, on 7 april 1876. ; She lived at Prairie City until she was seven years old, then moved with her family to Sarpy County, NE, near Papillion. In 1885, the family moved to Hitchcock County, southwest of Trenton, on a pre-emption, and lived there until 1888, when they moved to a homestead six miles south and three miles west of Stratton. Bruff and Frances lived on her parents' home place, then moved to a homestead seven miles south and three miles west of Stratton where they lived for three years. In 1902, they moved to California, and lived there until they returned to Nebraska in 1904.
Bruff and Frances had two children, Ralph E. Jones and Clyde H. Jones. Ralph presently lives in Stratton. Ralph married Flora G. Walker, and their story will be found elsewhere in this book.
Clyde married Gladys Hinkle and started his business in Stratton as a barber. Gladys helped; her parents in the Hinkle Grocery Store for many years. Later she was a clerk in the Stratton Post Office. They lived in Stratton until 1973 or 1974, when they moved to Horseshoe Bend, AR. Both are deceased.
Bruff was a carpenter for many years. in 1910, he started doing some barbering and bought his first barber shop in the same year. By 1922, he had also started selling furniture and appliances. He started helping a mortician in Stratton. By 1926, his son Ralph was the mortician in Stratton.
Bruff passed away 15 Jan 1961. His funeral service was held at the Methodist Church. He was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery next to his wife, Frances, who had passed away on 8 Mar. 1945.
Bruff's brothers and sisters included the following: Harry L.; Bertie C., who died in childhood; Hannah Moriah, who married Harry V. McDonald; Leota Blanch, who married Charles Arthur Besack; Alice Marilla, who married Henry A. Tool;Katherine M., who married Geogrge W. Maguire; and Orla P., who married Hazel Staker.
