Ernest Griebel Dies Today
At His Home Here
Ernest Griebel, pioneer farmer of Jasper county, died
late yesterday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock at his home near
Newton, following a year's illness, which culminated in a
stroke at midnight Saturday. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock; the place to be
announced later.
Mr. Griebel, who lived on a farm in the Oak Ridge
neighborhood northwest of Newton, would have been 71 years
of age next Wednesday, Oct. 28. He is survived by his wife,
a brother, Fred Griebel and a sister, Mrs. Henry Chapman. ~

Griebel Rites Will Be Held Wednesday, Oct. 28
Funeral services for Ernest Griebel, pioneer farmer of Jasper County who died at his home Monday afternoon, will be held at the Murdock Funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Dr. W.H. Blancke of the local Lutheran church in charge. Interment will be made in the Sugar Creek [sic-Grove] cemetery.
Ernest Griebel, son of Jacob Jochim and Ulricka Griebel was born in Holstein, Germany, Oct. 28, 1861. At the age of 11 years, he moved to American with his parents, locating in jasper county April 3, 1873, where he lived until his death Sunday, Oct. 25. August 2, 1894 he was united in marriage to Mary Iske of Nebraska. The couple spent their entire married life, 37 years, on the same farm near Newton.
He is survived by his wife, one sister, Mrs. Caroline Schuman, a brother, Frederick, both of Newton. A sister, Mrs. Freda Westphall and a brother, Chris, preceded him in death. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton Iowa, Tuesday, October 27, 1931

Griebel Rites Are Held Today
Funeral services for Ernest Griebel, who died at his home
Monday afternoon, were held at the Murdock Funeral home this
afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Dr. W. H. Blancke of the
Lutheran church in charge. Interment was made in the Sugar
Creek [sic-Grove] cemetery.
The pallbearers were Herman Marckerman, George Loupee,
Lewis Jensen, Otto Schuman, Charles Iske, and Henry Iske.
Mrs. Fred Reeves accompanied by Lois Hundling, sang two
selections, "In The Sweet Bye and Bye" and "The City

Mrs. Mary Griebel 82, Dies Today
Services Wed.
Mrs. Mary Griebel, passed away at the Skiff Memorial
hospital at 9 a.m. today after a weeks serious illness
following a stroke.
She was born Dec. 15, 1865 at La Platte, Neb., the
daughter of the late Henry and Mary Iske, and died at the
age of 81 years, 3 months and 15 days. She had been in
failing health for several years.
She was married to Ernest Griebel, Aug. 2, 1894 and came
to Newton as a bride where she has since resided.
Mrs. Griebel was preceded in death by her husband, her
parents and three brothers, Will Iske, Henry Iske and Ernest
Iske.
Survivors are five brothers, and one sister, Miss Sophia
Iske and Fred Iske, both of Omaha, Neb.; Frank and Amos Iske
of Fort Crook, Neb. and Cris Iske of Anamosa, Colo., also
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be from the Morgan Funeral Home, 2
p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. F. D. Boldt officiating. Burial
will be in Metz cemetery.
Mrs. Fred Tiedje and Mrs. Charles Bair will be in charge
of floral tributes. Pallbearers will be: Fred Tiedje,
Charles Marckerman, John Chapman, Herman Jensen, Louie
