Born: November 10, 1848(9) in Fulton Co., Illinois Andrew Jackson GoforthFuneral services for A. J. Goforth were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Murdoch Funeral home and burial was in the Sugar Grove cemetery. Music was furnished by Mrs. Myrtle Burr, who was accompanied by Mrs. Fred Reeve. Pallbearers were Claude Childs, Earl Snook, J. M. Samuels, Mr. Sampson, Karl Bach and Ed Meade. Andrew Jackson Goforth was born in Fulton county, Ill., on Nov. 10, 1849 and died Nov. 25, at 11:20 o'clock at the home of his grand daughter, Mrs. Claude Childs of Davenport. He had lived in Newton for almost 24 years. On December 9, 1869 he was united in marriage to Miss Henrietta Calkin and to this union were born seven children, one dying in infancy and one, Mrs. Mary Baker on July 9, 1930. He is survived by his widow and five children. Mrs. Effie Mummey of Milan, Mo., Mrs. Sadie Peart of California, Forest Goforth of Sanomonica, Calif., Frank Goforth and Mrs. William Montegomery of Newton and also 20 grand children and 24 great grand children. ~ Jasper County Record, December 4, 1930, page 4, column 1.

Goforth, 87, oldest soldier in the Newton Salvation Army corps, died Thursday at 2 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. E. Montgomery, 313 East Fourth street North, following a long illness. Mrs. Goforth, resident of Newton for 30 years, had been ill with pneumonia and complications since Feb 6. Funeral RitesFuneral services will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Murdoch funeral home, with the Rev. Anson Holmes in charge assisted by Ensign George Watt of the Newton Salvation Army post. Henrietta M. Calkins was born in Indiana March 8, 1843, and was united in marriage to Andrew Jackson Goforth, Dec. 10, 1869. Five daughters and two sons were born to this union. Army WorkerMrs. Goforth was united with the Baptist church at the age of 18 years, but for the last 18 years had been affiliated with the Salvation Army. Surviving relatives include three daughters, Mrs. Montgomery of Newton, Mrs. Effie Mummey of Milan, Mo., and Mrs. Sarah Haley of Montaque, Calif.; two sons, Frank of Newton and Forest of Santa Monica, Calif., and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
