James Engle, 77, Newton Realtor, Dies at Home.

James Jacob Engle, 77, of 101 East 10th St. South, a real estate broker in Newton for 42 years, died last night at his home following a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. Wednesday at the Johnson funeral home.

The Rev. Arthur V. Long, minister of the First Methodist church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Engle is survived by his wife; Emma; six daughters, Miss Carrie Engle and Miss Mamie Engle at home; Mrs. Russell (Ruby) Perry of Zearing, Mrs. Melvin (Sylvia) Gregorius of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Alvin (Geneva) Tinnermeier of Baxter and Mrs. Joseph (Emma) Rombaugh of Salem, Ore.; a son Glen Engle of Newton; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two brothers, Fred Engle of Newton and Percy Engle of Crescent, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Mr. Engle was a member of the Des Moines Christina church, the IOOF and the Masonic lodge.

In addition to operating his own real estate business in Newton for more than 40 years, he served as county coroner and justice of the peace.

The son of Andrew and Carrie Engle, he was born August 3, 1883 near Metz. Educated in Jasper county schools he spent his early life in the Metz community, moving to Newton in 1919.

He was married to Emma Lind March 3, 1902 at Mitchellville. ~ Newton Daily News December 11, 1960

Services Pending

Mrs. James (Emma Christina) Engle, 77, of 101 E 10th St. S., died this morning at the Skiff Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Johnson Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions to the Heart Fund will be accepted.

Mrs. Engle is survived by a son, Glenn of Newton; four daughters, Miss Carrie Engle and Miss Mamie Engle of Newton, Mrs. Alvin (Geneva) Tinnermeier of Baxter and Mrs. J.A. (Emma) Rombaugh of Salem, Ore., nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Hilma Dammeier and Mrs. Homer Clement, both of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James in 1960; two daughters, two sisters and three brothers.

Mrs. Engle was a member of the Lutheran Church.

The daughter of Swanson and Emma Anderson Lind, she was born Oct. 17, 1886 in Jasper County near Metz. She was educated in Jasper County Schools, She was married to James Engle March 3, 1902 at Mitchellville. ~ Newton Daily News April 3, 1964

Carrie I. Engle Dies at Hospital; Rites Saturday

Miss Carrie I. Engle, 61, of 101 E. 10 St. S., a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died at 1:40 a.m. today at the Skiff memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Chapel.

The Rev. Arthur V. Long, minister of the First Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Miss Engle will lie in state at Johnson Chapel after 6 p.m. today.

She is survived by three sisters, Miss Mamie Engle of Newton, Mrs. Alvin (Geneva) Tinnermeier of Baxter and Mrs. J. A. (Emma) Rombaugh of Salem, Ore.; a brother, Glenn Engle of Newton, and nieces and nephews.

Miss Engle was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Newton.

She was a supervisor in the sample department of the Newton Manufacturing Company.

Obituary - Mamie E. Engle

BAXTER -- Mamie E. Engle, 82, of Baxter Healthcare Center died from a respiratory ailment Friday, May 25, at the center.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Pence Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where family will be present one hour prior to the time of the services. Memorials will be accepted to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League.

The daughter of James Jacob and Emma C. Lind Engle, she was born June 8, 1918, in Mound Prairie Township in rural Newton. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School. For a short time she worked as a home health care aid and nurses's aid at Skiff Medical Center. She also worked for Newton Manufacturing . She was a lifelong resident of Jasper County and was a member of the Jasper County Humane Society and loved cats.

Survivors include a sister, Emma Rombaught of Aurora, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and a brother. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, May 29, 2001.
