G. H. Callison Dies Saturday In Des Moines
Funeral services for George Henry Callison, 77, of Des Moines, former Newton resident, will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from the Morgan Funeral home by Mrs. H. LeRoy Kinser of the Newton First Christian church. Interment will be in the Sugar Grove cemetery near Metz.
Mr. Callison, resident of this vicinity about 30 years ago, died Saturday evening in the Broadlawns hospital in Des Moines where he had been a patient for the last two months.
Local relatives include two daughters, Mrs. Arnet Adamson and Mrs. Austin Meriweather, and a brother, James Callison. Two other daughters and three sons also survive. ~ Newton Daily News, November 19, 1934, page 1.

Former Jasper County Resident Buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery
Funeral services for George H. Callison, 77, former Jasper county resident, were conducted from the Morgan Funeral home in Newton Tuesday afternoon by Mrs. H. LeRoy Kinsor of the First Christian church.
Music for the rites was furnished by Helen Stockman and Beulah Mae Still, who sang, "Ivory Palaces" and "Peaceful Slumber." They were accompanies by Mrs. E. C. Smith.
Interment was in the Sugar Grove cemetery, with following serving as pallbearers: W. J. Yarham, John Goodell, Fred Morrison, Ed Morrissey, T. D. eaton, and J. C. Gover.
George Henry Callison, son of Andrew Preston and Amelia (Draper) Callison, was born May 21, 1857, in Newton and died Nov. 17, 1934, at the Broadlawns hospital in Des Moines at the age of 77 years, 6 months, and 13 days.
On June 15, 1881, he was united in marriage to Susan K. Wagoner, who preceded him in death 13 years ago. Eight children were born to the union, all of whom are living with the exception of a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Austin, who died two years ago.
Mr. Callison had been in failing health for a year, and two months ago fell and suffered a broken leg, which with other complications, resulted in his death.
Surviving relatives include his daughters, Mrs. Josephine Main of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Nellie Henderson of Miles City, Mont., and Mrs. Arnott A. Adamson and Mrs. Austin Meriweather of Newton; his sons, Fred W. Callison of Richey, Mont., and Ralph Sydney Callison and Charles Callison, JR., of Des Moines and 16 grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. James Veach of Rhodes and two brothers, Frank Hickman of Baxter and James Callison of Newton, also survive. ~ Newton Daily News, November 22, 1934.
