Obituary of James Callison, her husband

James Callison died at his home four miles west of Anthony, Kan., Wednesday, March 25, 1896, and was buried in the west side cemetery of that city, Thursday, March 26. The funeral was conducted by Rev. J. R. Edwards.

Mr. Callison was born in Virginia, Jan. 8, 1810, moved to Tennessee where he was married to Louisinna Johnson, Aug. 23, 1832. To them were born seven children, of whom three survive, two sons and one daughter, Pleasant Callison of Knoxville, Tenn., C. J. Callison, of Metz, and Mrs. Lettie Vowell of Anthony, Kansas.

Mr. Callison moved from Tenn. to Jasper county, Iowa, in 1855 and resided here until he went to Kansas in 1883. His first wife died in 1875 and in 1876 he married Leah Haines, who survives him. The deceased was a minister of the gospel for over fifty years and was a power for good. He was well known to all the older settlers of the county. ~ The Newton Record, April 3, 1896.
