Obituary of Jackie BruceJacqueline Ann Bruce, 82, of Newton died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Newton Healthcare in Newton. A private graveside service will be at a later date. Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton is handling arrangements. The daughter of George Edward and Sarah Margaret (Trotter) Wicks, she was born May 21, 1927, in Newton. On Feb. 21, 1945, she was united in marriage to Charles R. Bruce. She attended the Newton Community Schools. Jacqueline was a homemaker and also owned Monroe Home Video for many years. She was a member of a coffee group and the Grange. She was a lifelong resident of Newton. Survivors include her husband, Charles R. "Ron" Bruce of Newton; two sons, Mark E. Bruce of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Ronald "Scott" Bruce of Mediapolis, Iowa; her grandchildren, Angie Metz of Newton, Amber Schlangen of Monroe, Aaron Bruce of Ocala, Fla., and Ashley Seals of Newton; and a sister, Harriet Carnahan of San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marla Seals; her sisters, Jenny Huffman, Thelma Owens, Nadine Jackson, Winnie Wisecarver and Florence Daughenbaugh; her brother, Johnathan Wicks; and Jackie's twin sister, June, who died at birth. ~ Source: Newton Daily News; Thursday, February 11, 2010 |

Ron BruceRon Bruce, 86, of Newton, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Mayflower Nursing Home in Grinnell. The family will greet friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m., Friday, May 6, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. A private family burial will be held at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. Memorials to the Mayflower Health Center may be left at the funeral home. Wallace Family funeral home in Newton is in charge of arrangements. Ron was born March 19, 1925, in Newton to Charles C. and Alice (Hough) Bruce. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1943. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed at Cocoa Beach, Fla. Ron farmed for many years southwest of Newton, and was a lifelong resident of the Newton area. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline A. Wicks on Feb. 21, 1945, in Newton. Ron was a member of Newton Lodge No. 59 A.F.&A.M.; Elks Lodge No. 1270; VFW Post 1655; and the Palo Alto Grange. He also was a member of card and coffee groups which he enjoyed attending. He is survived by two sons, Mark E. Bruce of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and Ronald "Scott" Bruce of Mediapolis, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Angie Metz of Newton; Amber Schlangen of Monroe; Aaron Bruce of Ocala, Fla.; and Ashley Seals of Newton. A funeral service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. David Rex officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials in her name may be left at the funeral home. The daughter of Charles R. "Ron" and Jacqueline (Wicks) Bruce, she was born March 19, 1953, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1972. On Oct. 3, 1980, she married Ronald G. Seals at Metz Church in Newton. She worked at Newton Motor Inn, Terrace Inn and Home Video stores in Newton and Monroe. She had a large Betty Boop collection and enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles and using eBay. She and her husband enjoyed taking a trip to the Amana Colonies each year for their anniversary. Survivors include her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Ashley J. Seals and Mark Allen of Newton; two brothers, Mark Bruce of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Ronald "Scott" Bruce of Charlotte; parents, Charles and Jackie Bruce of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.
