"To the best of our knowledge, St. John's Cemetery was started about the time the church was organized. The first cemetery, Old St. John's, was located on the northeast corner of the original forty acres of ground purchased in 1867. It was on this land the first church building, the schoolhouse, was erected.
"The first cemetery was never platted and the graves were in a row. The new cemetery was platted in 1874. In 1876 seven graves were there then when twenty acres of the original forty were sold and it was necessary to move the graves to the present cemetery site. There was no charge for a lot to the members of the church. In 1925 it was ruled a charge of $75.00 would be made for perpetual upkeep. In 1924 the congregation fenced the cemetery and put up the entrance. In 1947 a sidewalk from the church to the cemetery was installed and the drives in the cemetery were paved."
