Ladies Cemetery Association Minute Book

Page 58, Kellogg, Ia. May 6th 1909 (see photo of page)

Ladies Cemetery Association met with Mrs. T. W. Birchard, nine ladies being present. Minutes of last meeting read and approved.

Bill of Jas. Drake for dign one grave of $3.00 and 5 1/2 da's work amounting to $14.00 was then read and a motion made said bill be allowed, and an order drawn on treas. for amount. Motion carried.

Coms. report on material for lining graves, reported nothing done definite yet. Com continued.

Motion made we drop all lots that are two years in arrears. Motion carried.

Subject of getting an arch to be placed over gate at entrance with a suitable name for our cemetery, was freely discussed.

Name of Cemetery to be decided by a proper vote of Association. Motion carried.

Several very appropriate names were suggested, such as Maplewood, Sunny Side, Maplehill etc. Nothing definite decided on and was left over until call meeting of

There being no further business a motion was made we adjourn

The Ladies Cemetery Association met in a call meeting, with Mrs. Jas. Drake.

Called for purpose of deciding on arch for gate, also for a name to be placed in arch, as com. Mrs. John Reimer was ready with terms of suppliers of such goods. Mrs. Reimer read a communication from Iron Works. Subject was then fully and freely discussed.

Then subject of how much association should invest in said arch was discussed, it being decided to allow the com. of one. (Mrs. J. Reimer) $75.00 for such investment.

Several names were then brought before Association and finally decided as cemetery had always been called Kellogg Cemetery, we still keep the name. Such name to be placed in arch. The com. was then ordered to continue in her work until arch had reached its destination at Kellogg.

No further business. Association adjourned.

P.S. Subject of getting a lawn mower was brought forward and a motion made sexton purchase the same, bringing in bill for amt.

Ladies' Cemetery Association met with Mrs. Durfee.

Minutes of regular meeting and also of call meeting read and approved.

Next in order was reading of bills. Bill of Jas. Drake of $26.55 read and a motion made said bill be allowed, and an order drawn on treas. for amount. Motion carried.

Com. on arch reported that arch had been ordered but had not arrived here.

The motion which had been previously made that we insert in arch the words Kellogg Cemetery was amended by a motion which was made and carried, that in place of said words or name Kellogg Cemetery, we insert the motto Our Silent City. The words being very appropriate was adopted by a unanimous vote.

The subject of purchasing waste baskets for cemetery was discussed.

Mrs. Drake appointed a com. of two to see what waste baskets could be purchased for. Mrs. Millet and Rowland were appointed.

No further business motion to adjourn.
