"Mt. Zion Cemetery in Jasper County, Section 29, was started in 1854. It was also known as the Dooley Burying Ground or the Turck Burying Ground. These local names usually occured because of the surnames of the people buried ther. Three acres were deeded in 1857 for use as a cemetery. There are about 750 burials. Mt. Zion Methodist church is located adjacent to the cemetery, but the church and cemetery are separate entities. It is on a paved road, well meaintained and fenced with a gate." [The church was torn down after the publication of this book].
