"Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and Church is located in section 27 Hickory Grove Township, Jasper County, Iowa. The beginning was in October of 1879 when John Breeden and his wife Margaret, deeded to the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Episcopal Church, two acres of land to be used for a place of divine worship. The original warranty deed was written on cloth and in 1994 is still in good condition. It is kept rolled and in a cardboard container. There is a drawing of the cemetery lots and a scale drawing of the church, but it was not available for this record.
"The Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association filed their Articles of Incorporation in September 1925. In January of 1926 the Methodist Episcopal Church, for the consideration of $1.00 sold and conveyed unto the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association the land described in the original deed.
"Evidently the church changed hands during the ensuing years because, on the front of the church is a round plaque which reads: Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church."
