"The origin of the Jasper County Burying Grounds was in 1871. It is near the location of the former Jasper County Health Facility on Liberty Avenue & East 44th Stree South, one half mile South of Interstate 80, Newton, Iowa. It has also been called the County Home, Pauper or Poor Farm. It is .11 acres and was not deeded until 1979 when a quit claim deed was issued. There are aabout 60 burials in this cemetery with no stones. It is well maintained and fenced with a walk-in gate. A boulder with a bronze plaque and a large rustic wooden cross mark the location."
