"On the 2nd of June 1890, D. W. and Rose Terpstra conveyed and deeded one acre of ground along the Reasnor-Galseburg road to be used for a 'graveyard.' This plat is situated in the South West corner of Section four and the South East corner of Section five and was deeded to the Elk Creek Township Trustees. It was surveyed for platting 5 Jun 1903 by W. F. Byers, County Surveyor.

I hereby certify the attached plat to correctly represent that part of the Hewitt Cemetery situated in the South West corner of the south West 1/4 of the South West 1/4 Section 4 and the South East corner of the South East 1/4 of the South East 1/4 of Section 56 all in Township 78 North of Range 16 West of the 5th P.A., Iowa.

"In 1919 another acre was added from Harry Terpstra for two hundred dollars, recorded in book 1 B, page 414, deed record #315 states the 'Hewitt Cemetery Addition was platted by Ray McMurray, County surveyor and filed for record' on 22 November 1919. This deed shows only number and location of lots, separated by seven or eight feet alleys with a twelve foot driveway running from South to North. A total of 276 lots. Most lots are 12 feet by 16 feet, measured in groups of four with room for four graves per lot. Lots to be divided as owner prefers."
