Fisher Family

Elizabeth and Benjamin Fisher

Benjamin and Elizabeth Fisher are my Great Great Grandparents. They are buried in the Fisher Cemetery north of Colfax. Ben was the one who brought the Fisher family to Iowa from Indiana in 1857. They settled on a farm in Greencastle where he set aside the land for the Fisher cemetery.

Ben & Elizabeth raised a family of fifteen (15) children from infancy to adulthood. Ben died on March 23, 1883 at his home in Colfax.

Epitaphs carved on their tombstones are:

Benjamin Fisher, "Whilst in this tomb our father lies his spirit rests above; In realms of bliss it never dies but knows a savior's love."

Elizabeth Fisher, "Remember me as you pass by. As you are now so once was I. As I am now so you must be. Prepare for death and follow me."
