CAMPBELL CEMETERY P. 1
History by Pauline Lillie
Located
Section 14 English 78 Township, Range 11, about 2½ miles north and
½ mile west of North English. North side of road, or about 4½ miles
east of Millersburg and ½ Mile south.
History
Called Campbell Cemetery, for it was located on their land, and they
were the first families buried here. Joseph Campbell came to this
state in 1853. Was born in Wayne Co. Ohio September 4, 1825. Left
there age six moved to Morris Co. Ohio until 1848, when he married
Eliza A. Nell; Had two children Samuel and Sarah J.; Eliza died
June 26, 1855 age 23 buried here. He then married in 1856 Malinda
Ireland, she died, buried here in 1877. They had 9 children (first
5 alive in 1881). Abraham L,- Andrew J.-Almira - Joseph and Manie-
Albert- John, James A, and Addle. Had 370 acres Section 14, with
postoffice North English (p. 630 Hist. 1881)
Joseph Campbell died 1907 buried here, with practically all his family,
as well as close relationship to others. For the history mentions a
few graves in Section 14; Atlas 1874 p. 23 has cemetery on J. Campbell
farm; 1900 Atlas p. 13 Cemetery on Joseph Campbell farm. 1915 Atlas
p. 33 cemetery on William W. Boland farm.
A check with the 1874 Atlas lists owenership on the map of names of
these families. Like many early cemeteries, one could say, they buried
the first one here, then continued to up until the family was gone.
Condition
Was taken care of well, when I was here in fall of 1970; Is a pretty
cemetery - nice stones, and most were readable, but with a question of
several.
Remarks
It sits on the edge of the road: May drive in, not necessary to get
permission of land ownership . Should consult the township trustees,
or an up date plate as farm land may have changed. These stones were
read by Phyllis Wennermark and Margaret M. Wagner, September 29, 1966
for Iowa County Historical Society.
Researched History by Pauline Lillie- ladora.
