--------------------------------

My Grandmother and 3 boys came together on the Orphan Train after the 1885 census of Dubuque and Clayton counties, and arrived before Oct. 1890.

My grandmother came from NYC to Dubuque, Dubuque county, Iowa on the Orphan Train and was taken by Edward Shea/O'Shay/Shay (name varies on records).  With his father William Shea to: Volga, Clayton county, Iowa for Edward and his first wife Mary's farm.  His father lived in Sperry Township, Clayton, IA on a farm with his wife Mary.

Edward and Mary took "Bessie" Vernon (Elizabeth my grandmother) and Theodore (Timothy) Bell.  William and Mary took Mike Rhodes (who was from WI) and Pierce Furnace.  The four rode the Orphan Train together.

I've bee researching this since 1979.  I've run across the Mr. Curran in an article for the Dubuque, Dubuque county, Iowa area back in the 1880's to the late 1880's time period.  I have a copy.  I plan on still researching from that article back and forward hoping to find when they arrived here.  I live in Dubuque a few blocks from the Courthouse and Library.  Sincerely,  Leann

(Ann) ARLEN lmaarlen01@centurylink.net  2014.  My grandmother's birth varies from 1887, 1885, 1882 on records.  Even birthdate I noticed is month and date Ed's first wife died.  The 1925 Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa census has either April or May for Elizabeth Link father Michael VERNON.  Timothy is the other month for birth month on this census.  HE lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa after marriage and is buried there.  I took photo's of their tombstones and homes.  Have lots of data on even other Dubuque county Orphan Train riders that I learned in the country at Taverns and cemeteries from other families.
