BAILEY, E. N.
Britt publisher of the "Britt Tribune" in 1898.
Had a state-wide reputation as a humorist.
Later sold the paper and it was merged as the Britt-News Tribune.

County Clerk 1869-1870.
County Recorder 1867 to 1885.


BINGHAM, A. W.
Bingham Township trustee in 1898.
County Supervisor.
Bingham Township named after his father, one of the early settlers in the county.

BRADFORD, W. E.
Attorney, located at Britt in 1880. Partner of Wesley Aldridge, and attorney for the Britt Court House Committee.

BROCKWAY, H. N.
Admitted to the bar and settled in Hancock County in 1860.
Served three years in Civil war, serving as captain at close of war.
County Treasurer in 1865. Resigned in 1868 to become circuit judge and served as such until January 1873 when he formed a partnership with J. M. Elder in Banking, Real Estate and Abstracts, continuing until the firm sold out to J. N. Sprole in 1894. He was the father-in- law of Cub Sprole.


BROWN, CHARLES S.
Operated hay press at an early day at Britt.
Dealt in Real Estate.
Member of Britt Court House Committee.
With Rodney Hill platted Brown and Hill's Addition to Britt.
Moved to Texas in 1901 and became a member of the Texas State Legislature. Died January, 1945.

Member of firm of Brockway and Elder 1873 to 1894. One of the organizers of "Hancock County" Bank, the first bank in the County, and President of the same.

FELL, M. A.
Real Estate dealer in Garner and one of the incorporators of the Cedar Rapids, Garner and Northwestern Ry.

FOX, E. P.
Member and Chairman of Board of Supervisors during the Garner- Britt Court House contest.
He is remembered as a man of the strictest integrity with unquestioned loyalty and very capable in his line.
He built the grade for the Cedar Rapids, Garner and Northwestern Ry. and was known as the father of good roads in Hancock County.

State Representative 1920 to 1925. School Treasurer for 20 years.
Also served on town council and school board.
With the other members of the finance committee of the Britt Court House Committee deposited $40,000.00 with the County Treasurer for a Court House at Britt. A picture was taken and it is regretted that it cannot be found.

Contractor to build Court House at Amsterdam.
Constable in 1861.

First merchant to open a store in Garner — erecting the first building in Garner. Garner's first Postmaster.

MABEN, GROVER R.
Settled in Ellington Township in 1857.
First Superintendent of Schools - 1858.
County Supervisor in 1860.
Built Court House at Concord, from brick burned on his farm in Ellington Township, in 1868 and 1869.
Extensive land owner and cattle feeder.
Built large brick house on his farm in Ellington Township (Section 7) which still stands and in good condition.
Father of Hon. O. K. Maben (cub): and grandfather of cub Orville Maben.
One of the organizers of the Farmers Savings Bank, Garner, Iowa, and its first president-1891.
Organizer of Hancock County Mutual Fire and Lightning Insurance Association, and its first secretary in 1889.

MABEN, JOHN
First settler in Madison Township in 1855.
Elected County Supervisor in 1863 and served six years.
Served as County Treasurer from 1868 to 1884.
Served as County Sheriff from 1863 to 1866.
Served as County Recorder 1869 and 1870.
Brother of Grover R. Maben.

Son of Grover R. Maben.
State Representative from Hancock County from 1904 to 1908.
Director of the Farmers National Bank of Garner for years, and also secretary of the Hancock Mutual Insurance Co. for many years.
Father of Cub Orville Maben.

Sold to Hancock County first site for Court House at Amsterdam.
