He is numbered among the native sons of Dallas county, Iowa, where his birth occurred August 8, 1869, his parents being John W. and Emeline (Horton) Stribling, the former a native of Missouri and the latter of Indiana. They are now residents of Dallas county, to which place they removed from Missouri, making the journey with ox teams at an early day. John W. O. B. Stribling remained at home until twenty years of age and supplemented his common school education by two years’ study in Penn College at Oskaloosa, Iowa. His training at farm labor was not meager, for from an early age he assisted in planting the crops, in their further cultivation and ultimately in garnering the harvests. When he had reached man’s estate he engaged in farming on his own account, following that pursuit in Dawson and in Paton townships of Greene county. He was thus occupied until September, 1906, when be abandoned agricultural for commercial life, purchasing an interest in the store of Jones & Paterson, the new firm of Paterson & Stribling being then organized. The firm deal in furniture, hardware and farm implements and also have an undertaking department. Mr. Stribling has a diploma from Hohenschuh & Carpenter School of Embalming and devotes his attention to that part of the business.

In 1893, in Greene county, Mr. Stribling was united in marriage to Miss Hannah E. Brown, a native of Indiana, and they have one child, Vera. Both parents are members of the Friends church and Mr. Stribling is a republican in politics, who served as township clerk of Dawson township while upon the farm. His interest in community affairs is that of a public spirited citizen, yet he does not care for office, preferring to concentrate his energies and attention upon his business interests. His laudable ambition and unconquerable determination argue well for a successful future.
