A. T. Eklund

A. T. Eklund is a representative farmer of Paton township, living on section 12. He was born in Altona, Knox county, Illinois, on the 9th of November, 1878, his parents being John and Carrie Eklund, both of whom were natives of Sweden. The father was a shoemaker by trade and thus provided for the support of his family. His wife died when her son Theodore was only eight years of age. The family, however, remained together until the death of the father, which occurred when our subject was a youth of thirteen years. He then went to live with an uncle, with whom he remained for two years, when at the age of fifteen he started out in life on his own account. He has since been dependent entirely upon his own resources and whatever success he has achieved or enjoyed is attributable entirely to his earnest labor. In his youth he was employed as a farm hand, and in 1899 he came to Iowa, where he sought employment in the same way.

On the 5th of February, 1903, Mr. Eklund was married to Miss Hannah Burman, a daughter of John Burman, who is now living retired in Lanyon, Webster county. One child graces this marriage, Gilbert, who is now in his second year. Since his marriage Mr. Eklund has been conducting his father-in-law’s farm, but has recently purchased eighty acres adjoining, upon which he will take up his abode in the spring of 1908. He is an energetic man, willing to labor for what he receives, and in fact is one of the county’s workers, deserving much credit for what he has accomplished, as his diligence and perseverance have constituted the basis of his success. As the architect of his own fortunes he has builded wisely and well. Both he and his wife are members of the Mission church and are much esteemed in the community where they make their home.
