Lincoln H. Bucks
Lincoln
H. Bucks, jeweler and optician, has been engaged in business in
Jefferson since 1897 and during this decade has built up an extensive
business, commensurate with his skill in both lines - for he is a man
of recognized ability who has attained a high degree of proficiency
both as a jeweler and in the fitting of lenses. His close application,
untiring diligence and laudable ambition constitute the basis of his
success.
Mr. Bucks was born in a log cabin on a farm at Parkersburg, Iowa, on
the 19th of March, 1871, and after acquiring his preliminary education
in the common schools attended the high school at Freeport, Illinois.
When he had put aside his text-books he began learning the jeweler’s
trade at Freeport and followed that pursuit for ten years in Freeport,
Illinois, and in Minneapolis, Minnesota, before locating in Jefferson
in 1897. He also made a careful study of the optical business and
became an expert in testing eyes and fitting glasses. With the capital
that had accrued from his industry, he established business at his
present location in the Head Hotel building in Jefferson in 1897, and
now carries the largest stock of jewelry, optical goods and sheet music
in the city. From the beginning he has enjoyed a liberal patronage, his
trade constantly increasing, and his earnest desire to please his
customers, combined with his reliable business methods, make him a
prosperous merchant. He applies himself closely to his business, often
working in the early morning and frequently till midnight, and his
perseverance and energy constitute the basis of his present success.
His work as a jeweler and as an optician have been thoroughly tested
and have given full satisfaction. He could never content himself with
mediocrity, but has pushed on to a high degree of perfection and
is continually progressing in that direction.
In Lincoln, Nebraska, Mr. Bucks was united in marriage to Miss Laura
Bangham, whose parents are now living in Pasadena, California. Mr. and
Mrs. Bucks now have three children, Ruth, Paul and Coral. With the
Methodist Episcopal church the parents hold membership and are
interested in its work. They are well known socially and in his
fraternal relations Mr. Bucks is a Mason and he held membership in
Minneapolis lodge, No. 19, A. F. and A. M., the largest Masonic lodge
in the world. He gives his political support to the republican party,
but is without aspiration for office, preferring to concentrate his
time and energies upon his business affairs which, intelligently
directed, have gained him rank with the leading and prominent business
men of the county seat.
