Foster Bruntlett

Foster Bruntlett, an enterprising agriculturist and stock-raiser of this county, was born in Jackson, Iowa, September 30, 1855. He is the son of John and Mary (Pawson) Bruntlett, both natives of England, who came to this country and settled on a farm in Carroll county, Iowa, where John Bruntlett passed away about 1891, at the age of fifty-eight years. These good people were the parents of nine children, seven of whom are still living.

Foster Bruntlett received his education in the common schools and was fortunate in having a practical training in agricultural pursuits on his fathei’s farm. Early trained to thrift and industry, he had saved a small capital, so that when he moved to Greene county, Iowa, in 1881, he bought eighty acres on section 7, Scranton township, from J . D. Brutsman. He determined early in life never to live beyond his means and he erected a small house which he was amply able to pay for. He lived contentedly in this until he had acquired enough to build his present splendid home. His hard work upon the farm has been crowned by financial success. He has erected a horse barn fifty-six by sixty-four feet, a stock barn forty-eight by forty-eight feet, double corn cribs, and many other buildings. More than this, he has added to his farm eighty acres on section 8, Scranton township, and one hundred and twenty acres on section 7. All of this land he has fenced, tiled and improved until it now yields abundant crops. In addition to general farming, he carries on stock-raising. He raises a splendid quality of shorthorn cattle, red hogs, draft and road horses.

Mr. Bruntlett was married in Jones county, Iowa, in 1876, to Sarah Lewis, a native of Illinois. He has always been an active republican, and though he has never sought the oflices or honors of this party, he has always assisted those who have. His principles in life and business are wise and well worth the attention of the young agriculturist who fell eager to begin on too large a scale. Mr. Bruntlett is of a happy, contented disposition and a man who has never postponed living, but enjoys life as he goes along.
