A Good Mother Called To Her Final Resting Place
Quietly as she had lived, Mrs. J. J. Roup passed away at her home on Argyle street Thursday, after an illness of seventeen weeks. Her life was one dedicated to her family and friends, and her chief joy was in doing for others.
Mary Magdalene Gubser was born in Davenport, Iowa, January 26, 1868 and passed away at her home in Hamburg on January 9, 1936, aged 67 years, 11 months and 13 days. She was married to J. J. Roup at Hamburg on November 26, 1889, and they moved to their farm southeast of Hamburg, where they lived until the family moved to Hamburg in 1923 on account of the health of Mrs. Roup. Seven children were born to this union, Edmond Roup of Watson, Maude and Catherine at home, Louise and Dorothy of Kansas City, and Raymond of Monterey, Calif. Mary Katherine died at the age of nine. She is also survived by her husband and four brothers, John L. Gubser of Ulysses, Nebr., Ben L. Gubser of Hollywood, Calif., N. J. Gubser of Tulsa, Okla., and Henry Gubser of this place.
Funeral services were held at the St. Mary's Catholic church Monday morning at 10 o'clock with solemn requiem high mass, with Father E. R. O'Donnel as celebrant, Father F. W. Doyle of Imogene, as deacon, and Father Fedilis Goetz, O. S. B., as sub deacon. The acolytes were Jerry Gude, Francis and Lawrence Long. The requiem mass was sung by Mrs. Elizabeth Schmidt-Johnson of Kansas City. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery in this place. The church was filled with friends who came to pay their last respects to a true friend.
