John William Pierce was born August 18, 1864 near Bartlett, Iowa and died at his home January 23, 1940 age 75 years, 5 months and 5 days.

He was married to Rosilla Keran on October 12,1888 and to this union eight sons and four daughters were born. One son and two daughters preceeded him in death. He is survived by his wife, seven sons and two daughters, Paul, John and mrs Bertha Clapper of this Neighborhood, Raymond, Luke, Thomas and Buryl at home , Warner at Lincoln, Nebraska, and Mrs. Katy (Opal) welchen of Riverton. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers Joe and George and three sisters , mrs Rose Forney, Mrs Nevada Wyant and Mrs. Lily Weston of Nebraska City. Mr. Pierce had spent his entire life in this community, and his cheerful smile and kind disposition made him a friend to all who knew him. A kind gentle father who will be missed in his home.

Funeral services were held at the King Church Thursday with Rev. Charles Aitkens as minister. Three favorite Hymns “Home over there” “shall we meet beyond the river”, “rock of ages” were sung by Paul and Esther Rosentrater.

Pallbearers were: Will King, Clarence Forney, Frank King, Grover Isom, John King and Floyd Forney.
