MEETS AN ACCIDENTAL DEATH
Edwin D. Nelson

Man is killed while assisting in wood sawing
December 11, 1918
College Springs, Iowa

Ed Nelson was fatally injured forenoon while helping saw wood at Wills Pressly’s place north of town. No one saw just how the accident happened, but it is supposed he went to the engine to make some adjustment, and the pocket of his jacket caught on something, and he was pulled into the fly wheel. The men who were working with him knew nothing of the accident until they looked around and saw Ed lying on the ground. They went to him and found his face and head all mashed up and he was in an unconscious condition. Physicians were immediately summoned and Ed was removed to his home just north of Pressly Farm.

Doctors Miller, Robb, and Davies responded to the call and upon their arrival found the patient in a horribly mangled condition. One side of his face was badly smashed and cut up, his skull fractured, and he had concussion of the brain. Everything possible was done for the relief of the suffering man, but he passed away at 3:30 in the afternoon. He is survived by a wife – Elizabeth - and three boys, LeRoy age 12, Paul age 9, Donovan age 7. Also Father and Mother, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew F Nelson, three brothers, Emmet, Clide, Benjamin and two sisters, Amanda and Sara (Mrs. George Craine of Calgary, Canada).
