Marie Jones was born in Pontypool, Wales, England, May 5, 1842, died January 5, 1922, at Glenwood, Iowa, age 79 years 8 months.
She was united in marriage to Joseph Rawlings in Pontypool, Wales England, November 6, 1864. They came to America April 12, 1880 and settled in Ironton, Ohio, which place they made their home and residence one year. From thence to Phelps City, Mo., where they resided three years coming to Percival in November 1884 where they made their home until April 19, 1910 coming to Glenwood in which place they have made their home till the present time.
To this union two children were born, both passing away in infancy. Mrs.
Rawlings gave her heart to Christ during a series of meetings held in the Baptist church in Percival, Iowa 1889, conducted by the Rev. Waynick, after which she united with the M. E. Church of Percival, Iowa. In that and all church work she was active and earnest worker till the time of their removal to Glenwood,Iowa. She never changed her membership from this church.
Mrs. Rawlings was a faithful and devoted wife, charitable and unbiased in her affection toward young and old. Ready at all times to lend assistance and timely aid to the afflicted, poor or needy. The Bible was her guide and in this faith she lived and died.
She leaves to mourn her loss besides her husband, Joseph Rawlings, one brother and two sisters in England, one sister in Corning, Missouri and a host of friends. Those from here attending the funeral, which was held in Glenwood Saturday were F. W. Sheldon, Clark Sheldon, Jr. and wife, T. E. Hazelwood and wife, Frank Lumm and Marie Copeland.
