Man Who Came Here In An Early Day, Dies After a Lingering Illness

On Tuesday morning Isaac Harris, a respected citizen of this community for many years passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank McBride. During the years of residence here Mr. Harris built for himself a reputation for fair dealing and generous treatment of all. By his kind hearted ways and friendliness he made friends on all sides.

Isaac Robert Harris was born in New York State, December 2, 1833 and died in Hamburg, February 20, 1923, aged 89 years, 2 months and 18 days. When seven years of age he moved with his parents to Illinois, where he received his education in a select school, afterwards attending the academy at Toulon, Illinois. At the age of fourteen he joined with the Christian church to which he remained a faithful member until the time of his death. On June 25, 1857 he was united in marriage to Leannah Martz, and to this union eleven children were born, two children, Mrs. John Alberson and Charles Harris with the wife having passed to the great beyond. Mr. Harris moved to Hamburg in the early '70's and made this his home from that time.

In the days of his young manhood he took an active part in the affairs of the town and state and did much for the upbuilding of the town. He is survived by the following children, Mrs. H. E. McCowan, Fremont, Neb.; Mrs. Anna Franklin, Baker City, Oregon; John Harris, Pawnee City, Nebraska; Grant Harris, Clarinda; Mrs. Frank McBride, Mrs. Gus Wagner, M. H, Asa and Ean Harris of this place, all being present at the funeral but Mrs. Franklin. Services were held at the Frank McBride home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.B. Crewdson and interment was made in the Hamburg Cemetery.
