Jeremiah Evans, the son of Samuel J. and Catharine Dragoo, Evans was born September 23, 1852, in Brown County Ohio and passed away at his home in Hamburg, Iowa, November 8th, 1943, aged 91 years,
1 month, 16 days.
His parents both died when he was a small child. And, he was taken in to the home of his Aunt Mahala Dragoo, and her husband, Benjamin F. Dragoo. (called "Frank", he was Jeremiahs 3rd cousin)
They came to Atchison County Missouri in 1863, and settled on a farm 6 miles south of Rock Port, Mo, where he grew to manhood. He operated the first farm implements in Atchison County.
He was united in marriage to Florence Ann Settles, Feb. 9th, 1891. And, to this union were born 8 children, 4 sons and 4 daughters. Mrs. Earl (Mamie) Wood passing away Aug. 20, 1924 and William
Franklin Evans, Nov. 17, 1936.
He is survived by his wife and children, J. T. Evans of Watson, Mo.; Eugene Evans of Fairfax, Mo.; And, Cline W. D. Evans, now in the service. Mrs. Evelyn Lawrence of Sterling, Colo.;
Mrs. Edith Miller of Redwood City, Calif.; Mrs. Eva Young of Kansas City, Kansas. Also, one foster son, Ezekiel H. Doherty, Jr., of Omaha, Nebraska. He leaves 15 grandchildren and 3 great
grandchildren (one of them was me.) Also, one sister Mrs. Eliza Shelton of Brown Co. Ohio.
When a young man, he united with the Christian Church at Union City, Mo. He was a good man and loving husband and father, and was respected by all who knew him, and will be greatly missed in the home. Funeral services were held in the Johnson Funeral Home, Nov. 11, conducted by Rev. Gillette. Burial in Hamburg, Iowa cemetery.
