Darst services held February 27
Funeral services for Estyna A. Darst were held February 27, 1990, at the funeral chapel in Sidney conducted by the Rev. David Wendel.
Pallbearers were Robert Leonard, Martin Maher, Lynn Handy, Dale Whipple, James Sutton and Dwight Hills.
Organist was Eleanor Miller. Stan Orton was soloist. Selections were “Precious Lord Take My Hand” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Caring for flowers were Doris Heiliger, Velta Gardner, Barb Handy,
Louise Leonard. Kaye Hummel was in charge of the memory book.
Interment was in the Sidney cemetery. Memorials are directed to the American Cancer Society and the Sidney Rescue Squad.
Estyna A. Darst was born January 30, 1902, in Percival, IA, where she was raised. “Tiny,” as she was known, was the daughter of E.S. “Bud” Handy and Millie Belle Harris Handy.
On February 18, 1921, she was united in marriage to Alva R. “Rex” Darst and to this union two daughters were born, Jeanne and Rosemary.
Tiny was known for her great sense of humor and outgoing personality. Mrs. Darst worked for several years in Sidney at Thompson’s Apparel, Barnard’s Clothing and Vern Heiliger’s store.
She was Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She and her husband were active members of the W.W.I. Barracks #1550, and she was secretary-treasurer of the Auxiliary from 1972 until the Barracks dissolved in 1980.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Rex, two sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by her two daughters, Jeanne Conners and her husband Vince of Sidney, and Rosemary
Waterworth and her husband Bob of Denver, CO. Also surviving are six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
