John Rhode was the first ancestor that migrated from Germany to the United States. He came before he Revolutionary War, settling in South Carolina, and later Ohio. Among the earliest settlers to Fremont County were Daniel, John and Joseph Rhode.

Daniel arrived first, moving close to Hamburg in 1847. In 1850 Daniel settled west of Tabor, in Green Township. In 1851, John and Joseph drove overland from Indiana, settling near their brother Daniel in Fremont County, Iowa.

    • Rhode, Jonathan (son of D. A. & Mary): died 18 Jul 1854, age 15 yr., 4 months.
    • Rhode, Joseph: died 17 Jan 1886 age 67 yr.
