ILLYRIA UNION CHURCH REOPENING

The people residing in the city limits of Elgin have been greatly interested in the new church project under way, which is so rapidly nearing completion under the directing hand of Contractor Kiple. But we haven’t anything on the Illyria and Highland township farmers. They had Contracted Butler complete an improvement that speaks well of their progressive spirit and community solidarity. We refer to the raising of the Illyria Union church, the installation of a new heating plant and the remodeling and equipping of a splendid new basement, comprising a large and wall appointed kitchen and a fine, commodious social and banquet room. A new cistern will provide water for the kitchen. The exterior of the building is being treated with a new coat of paint and on Sunday, August 29, there will be held a formal reopening service with Dr. Bennett, of Highland Park College, of Des Moines, as chief speaker. Not content with this the farmer’s wives has arranged for a huge banquet on the Monday night following at which Dr. Bennett will again speak. Then on Tuesday evening the young people not to be outdone have arranged for an evening of entertainment.
