ELGIN BOY ENLISTS
***
The Elgin Echo
Elgin, Iowa
Thursday, July 5, 1917
Page One, column one

Another Elgin boy has joined the colors.  This time it is Earl Dummermuth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Dummermuth, who reside near this town. Earl was working at Canton, South Dakota, and it was there in a little town, not as large as Elgin, that twenty-two boys stepped forward and put their on the roll of honor. They became members of the National Guard and Earl came home for a visit before they go into training.  They expect to be mobilized at Huron, S. Dakota, and from there they will probably go to a training camp  in New Mexico, and, after that, they will probably be sent "across the ocean to France."  Here's hoping the boys in khaki are always successful. May they meet with few reverses. That they will be true to their country and perform their duty well is a fact which we never question.
