Census of the County of Du Buque taken
by George W Cummins, Sheriff of said County in pursuance of an act
of the Legislature of the Territory of Wisconsin approved December
30, 1837 entitled "an act providing for taking the second Census or
Enumeration of the Inhabitants of the Territory of Wisconsin"
agreeable to the Books now in possession of the Clerk of the
district Court of said County.
The following is a correct Schedule of the whole number of
Inhabitants within the Limits of Clinton County (attached to Scott
for Judicial purposes) taken in accordance with an act.

Charls Dunn, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Wisconsin
Territory, and presiding Judge of the District court of Du Buque
County, having examined the Schedule of the inhabitants of said
County, returned by the Sheriff thereof, and satisfied that from the
dispersed situation of the inhabitants of said County, the sum of
three dollars per hundred is not a sufficient compensation.
Therefore, the said Sheriff has my approbation to charge an addition
