The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War have him buried in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. William's wife, Polly, is buried at Otho Cemetery, Webster County, Iowa.

From the Report of the Board of Managers of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soliders (Marshalltown, Iowa) for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 1895, a Descriptive list of members admitted to the Iowa Soldiers, Home during the year ending June 30, 1895 includes Number: 1227; Name: Silas B. Parkhurst; Regiment: I, 7th Iowa Cav; Rank: Private; Months Served: 37; Birth Place: Massachusetts; Age: 79; Disability: weak eyes and old age; Place of Admittance: Iowa; Occupation: Farmer; Marital Status: Married. Died in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts on May 19, 1910 at the age of 94. A bio of Silas B. Parkhurst appears in the History of Cherokee County [Iowa].

He died December 29, 1897 and is buried at Tabor Cemetery, Tabor, Mills County, Iowa.

Promoted to Full 8th Corporal on September 1, 1865. Promoted to Full 7th Corporal on December 20, 1865. Promoted to Full 6th Corporal on February 1, 1866. Mustered Out Company I, 7th Cavalry Regiment Iowa on April 10, 1866 at Sioux City, Iowa. Removed to Nebraska after the war and then shortly after removed to Pottawattamie where he lived the rest of his life. He died between 1910 and 1920 and is presumed buried in Pottawattamie County.
